So, Black Butler is one of my favorite anime. (Oooohhhhh Baaasssiiieeeee <3) However, I'm really not that much a fan of season two, or how the series ends. Thoughts? (Warning: May contain spoilers)

I pretend season 2 doesn't exist. It makes me happier. I found the new characters to be shallow and underdeveloped, and all the old characters lost all the character developments they gained in season 1. There were a lot of things left unexplained or vague in the end, and the actual ending was a joke. It completely erased the awesomeness of the ending of season 1 WARNING SPOILERS I mean, how many people thought that Ciel was actually going to lose his soul? It was a risk to have Sebastian eat his soul, and it played off marvelously in my opinion. I was very pleased to see the plucky child protagonist actually have to pay the prescribed price for his actions, because how often does that really happen? It seems to me that most protagonists--especially cute kids--get off scott free when making deals with the devil. Ciel didn't and that made me happy to no end. Finally, we learn that actions really do have consequences and you do have to pay them! Le gasp! Then season 2 came along and was like lolnope jk he actually didn't pay the price, he came out on top with eternal life and a hot demon servant. All sarcasm aside, I really did like the ending of season 1 and was sad to see all the good things about it pretty much redacted by season 2. SPOILERS OVER I really strongly disliked Alois Trancy. And by strongly disliked, I mean hated with the passion of a thousand suns.

My main issue with season two was that they tried to do too much in far too short of a season. The first season was twenty something episodes, and some of the characters didn't make sense until the very end. Twelve episodes just doesn't seem enough time for character development. I didn't really mind the ending. Sure, it was a bit sad and was a major slap in the face for Sebastian, but that wasn't Ciel's fault. His whole attitude at the end essentially took a whole "I wish I could kill Trancy myself" type of approach to it. Actually Ciel didn't come off very well in my opinion either. Not only was the contract (and his goal of getting revenge and then ending the Phantomhive line) unfulfilled and he is stuck with Sebastian, but he has to start over a new life and will pretty much be a kid for eternity. (demons don't age so that's a pretty safe assumption I think)
I'm thinking that the only characters who came out of this whole thing "on top" are Hannah, Claude, and Alois. And they're all dead.
